Myth “ARTHRITIS is an old person’s disease”
Although there are at least 10 million people in the UK living with arthritis, 2 out of 3 people are under 65 years.
At least 1,000 children under 16 develop inflammatory arthritis each year.
Charlie has Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). He is 5 years old and along with millions of others with inflammatory arthritis and cancer, Charlie is treated with a cancer drug, methotrexate. He has monthly blood tests to see how his liver and bone marrow are coping with the methotrexate.
In 2014/15, Cancer Research received £621 million income, which rose by 24% in the previous year, to fund 2-3 million people living with or beyond cancer in the UK.
In 2014/15, Arthritis Research UK received £37 million income, down from £40,224 million the previous year, to fund research for 10 million people affected by arthritis.
