Changes to Library Opening Hours

From Monday 6th July, opening hours at 16 Leicestershire libraries will be changing. The revised opening hours were agreed by the Leicestershire County Council Cabinet last September, following a consultation on the county council’s proposals to save £800,000 from libraries.  More than half of the respondents agreed that closing larger libraries at less busy times would be one way to tackle the funding issue. The changes in hours affect Market Town and Shopping Centre libraries: Coalville, Hinckley, Loughborough, Market Harborough, Melton, Oadby and Wigston These libraries will now close one day a week and open at a slightly later time of 10:00 am. Loughborough and Oadby will no longer be open on Sundays. On weekdays these libraries will be open until 6:00 pm. Ashby, Blaby, Birstall, Broughton Astley, Earl Shilton, Glenfield, Lutterworth, Shepshed and Syston These libraries will be closed for an additional half-day and open at a slightly later time of 10:00 am, but Saturday opening has been increased from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Closure days vary according to the individual library.  For information on libraries in Oadby & Wigston district please see the documents attached.  For information on other libraries please visit the website: If you have any concerns about being able to access the library in order to carry on with the valuable voluntary work you do on our behalf, please contact us so that we can discuss further. Many thanks, Ruth Pointer/Hilary Ward Locality Manager South Leicestershire County Council c/o The Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland Long St, Wigston Magna, Leicester LE18 2AH Tel: 0116 257 1080
